Trump Tax Cut: Oh, Happy Day!

Watched President Trump this morning giving a pep talk about his new tax plan which he says will bail out the middle class. It's going to be wonderful. The best tax plan ever. You can fill out your taxes on the back of a post card.

And here's the best part:  He told a little tale about two people in the audience who are married and their combined income is $90,000 and this new plan will save this middle class couple $1000 over the year. Wow! Isn't that wonderful?

That comes out to $2.70 a day!  That ought to cover a cup of McDonald's coffee for each of them with 70 cents left over to invest in the stock market.

Here's something to warm the hearts of struggling middle class families everywhere: The Trump Tax would save the 400 richest families in the nation about 5 million dollars a year and it would eliminate the "death tax" aka the "estate tax" which have more than $5 million estates which is 0.2% of the nation. So, to say this plan has something for everyone is an understatement--it's taking care of everyone, even the 400 richest families and the 0.2%. Like Trump care, this is just fabulous, you're-gonna-love-it great.

Hey, you got $2.70 more every day. You can afford those smokes now.
I also learned  from the Tripe the NFL is failing, big declines in attendance and TV ratings are way down.  TV ratings are going South, the President exulted.

Ever notice how whenever Trump faces criticism from a news paper or a magazine or any organization, his response is not to the substance of the criticism but to the status of the critic.  Well, don't believe them, because their ratings are down. Why believe a bunch of losers?

So it's the failing New York Times, the failing NBA and now the failing NFL.

According to the NFL, TV ratings are down because people are watching the games on other devices, on tablets, smart phones etc., but viewership, such as you can measure that, is actually up.

Stadiums for every team, are over 95%, most above 97% and some above 100%.

I have to admit, I'm ambivalent about football now. It was my favorite game growing up, but the head injury thing is pretty significant and the power of this generation of players is stunning.

And then there is the case of Aaron Hernandez.  Why would a guy who is making millions in the NFL shoot some punk drug dealer and then hang himself?  Well, on autopsy, his brain is riddled with traumatic lesions.
Do you think the two might be connected?

  1. Trump, when presenting his plan, said "this is not good for me, believe me". Well how would we know that since he refuses to release his tax returns? What we do know from the little we have been able to find out about his taxes, is that in years past, Trump was forced to pay $3.1Million because of the Alternative Minimum Tax (ATM). And guess what goes away in his new plan - that's right, the ATM. "Believe me" indeed!!

  2. Anon,

Whenever I hear a guy who uses the phrases, "Believe me," or "To be really honest," I think, this is not someone who is honest or who ought to be believed.

The big "tell" in all these packages is the estate tax, or the "death tax" as Republic-cons say it. If you see they've taken that out to benefit the 400 richest families in the country, and 0.2 percent of all tax payers, you know this ain't no middle class tax cut.

  3. Turns out, his ATM "penalty" was $31 Million, not $3.1Million - no wonder he wants the ATM gone!! And, given how many of his holdings are in LLCs - the top rate on that income will be capped at 25% under the new plan, not the current 44.9%. "this is not good for me" he says - how much would it take before he would admit "this is good (actually great) for me"?

  4. current top rate is 43.9% (39.6% + 4.3% Obamacare tax), not 44.9% as I said above - sorry

  5. Mad Dog and Anon,
It will be interesting to see how many middle class folk get excited about the chump change they get in tax savings compared to the huge windfall the super rich receive..Well all the super rich except Donald-you gotta trust me on this...The loss of revenue from these tax cuts for corporations and the ultra wealthy is a no win for the average Joe, but how many among that group of Trump supporters will be willing to acknowledge that and how many will sit back and let D**kh**d Donny kick them in the teeth...(that one's for you Anon-know you like the stronger terms when it comes to Donald)

As for Hernandez, it's most unfortunate that the brain damage incurred by playing football can only be seen in an autopsy. Had that not been the case, his defense attorneys really would have had something to work with..

  6. Thanks Maud - it is true that I (we) prefer the stronger descriptors but I wish we could come up with some term which would be socially acceptable while still conveying the loathing so many of us feel - so we could use it more often and more publically!!

  7. Maud and Anon:

We have to get serious about a "Name that Doufus" contest. I've tried, and failed. Tripe is simply the master at naming--as any marketer would be. Rocket Man. Little Marco. Pocahontas. Etc.
Surely, among us, we can think of something pithy that will stick, go viral and bring this turd down.
Dimly Donald. Empty Donald. Damn, it's not that easy, as Don Draper once instructed.

  8. While it is somewhat limited, given all his many shortcomings and failures, I think something that reminds people that he bought his way out of the military draft, such as Donald the Draft Dodger or Draft Dodger Donald might remind his base of his true nature! It angers me to watch this Pretend Patriot wrap himself in the flag and shout that others are not showing appropriate respect for the flag and the country. The undisputed facts are that when his country called, he ducked (bought his way out) and went off to party (something he was quite proud of at the time) - which always leaves me to see him as D....B.. Donald - a moniker that more accurately captures his many, many deficiencies, shortcomings and failures! What a LOSER!!
