Amy Louise Wood published a book in 2011 called, "Lynching and Spectacle," about the Jim Crow South during the 1950's--that halcyon time in America to which Mr. Trump would like to return us.
She makes a number of surprising observations, based on the data she managed to collect about who was doing the lynching, where it happened most often and why.
But, the central insight is that lynching was about spectacle. It was a "warning to the others."
And that is really what Mr. Trump is all about, with the call to re open Alcatraz, with his urgings to the dictator of El Salvador to build new torture chambers to receive all the bad guys Mr. Trump intends to send him, not just illegal immigrants, but "home grown" nasties.
What Mr. Trump really is doing is simply a neo-lynching, the new wrinkle is it is not done by the local hooded vigilantes. It is the government who is the vigilantes--no trials, just string 'em up quick as we can.
We are living the Ox Bow Incident every day now.
Doesn't matter if we make a mistake now and then, stringing up the wrong guy, because they are all guilty of being Black or from shit-hole countries and we need to send a message.
When you look at the post cards made of the lynchings, there are often children grinning into the camera with a Negro hanging by his neck in the back ground.
It was just a fun Sunday diversion--go hang the Negro.
Sometimes done before church, a ceremony of dominance, fire and brimstone.
Now it's send the immigrant to the gulag.
That's the point of Mr. Trump's current mob: a spectacle of cruelty.
I think the spectacle was a criminal invasion of our borders by millions of people who violated our immigration laws. Not sure why mad dog thinks lynching has any relevance unless he thinks that enforcing immigration law is lynching which is strange since every other nation on earth enforces it’s immigration laws
ReplyDeleteAnon,
ReplyDeleteOh, there it is.
Migrant invasion deserves to be met with lynching. Well, there you have it: the idea of lynching is it bypasses due process and moves right to the spectacle, right down to the grinning white guy.
Straight out of the Oxbow Incident, or, for that matter, 100 years of Mississippi Burning.
Anon,
ReplyDeleteOh, and last I heard, under Biden and due process millions were sent back and the rate of illegal ingress over the last two years of Biden's presidency fell steadily--under Trump that rate has dribbled down but nothing dramatic.
Point is: you can get the same result with due process, i.e. you can do law and American civilization does not collapse.
Mad Dog
Millions of illegal migrants who invaded USA are not entitled to due process. Like Trump and Obama, I don't see where the USA Constitution grants invaders due process. Are you so far left that you don't support Obama's position?. Why not post pictures of the USA murder, rape and molestation victims of this criminal invasion? How do the lynching photos you post here have any relevance except in some bizarre, warped twisted logic as a connection to illegal immigration?
ReplyDeleteWhite House press secretary Josh Earnest acknowledged “some discussions” between the White House and DHS over policy matters related to the raids, but did not get into specifics. He said President Barack Obama supports deportation of those who recently entered the U.S. illegally.
ReplyDelete“Some operations have taken place that have been focused on individuals, deporting individuals that have recently crossed the border. That is consistent with the kinds of enforcement priorities that the president and the secretary of homeland security discussed more than a year ago,”
It seems Mad Dog wants the good people of NH to give up access to hospitals, he wants USA homeless to give up shelters, children to go without school lunches, families to struggle for housing, he wants taxes to go up and police to work under drug cartel threats. That is the kind of America Mad Dog envisions to help the illegal invaders. Maybe you should post photos of that spectacle you want to inflict upon your fellow citizens.
