Oh, Those Space Lasers!
Sometimes, someone gets it so right, there is just nothing to add.
Mad Dog, Agree wholeheartedly- Jon Stewart at his finest- thanks for sharing…Amazing to think the Republican Congress could possibly sink lower- but they’ve managed to do so when they threaten to withhold aid from fire victims. Where do they go from here- tripping the elderly, punching babies?? When a blue state has a disaster it’s the Democrats’ fault- when a red state is hit it’s unfortunate circumstances beyond their control..Wonder what the bible clutching Republican base thinks of this most un-Christian behavior… Maud
What is really galling is that AL, MS, LA,WY are all "taker" states, i.e. they get back from the federal government way more than they contribute to the federal treasury. Blue states, as a rule, have been carrying Red states on their backs for generations and all the Red states ever do is complain about how the federal government spends too much money. That's chutzpah: the man who pleads for leniency after murdering his parents on the grounds he is now an orphan. The Red states take all that government largess in terms of federal programs, military industrial spending and complain the whole time about how the "tax and spend" Democrats are ruining them by spending so much money...money which is disproportionately spent ON THE RED STATES. Mad Dog
Really? No state or municipal mismanagement by these darling politicians (Mayor and Gov) of the far left. No condemnation of their lackadaisical approach? Just endorsement of Jon Stewarts inane jokes and leftist satire for the thousands that lost homes? Keep on that course and there will be no Democrat party remaining in USA.
Oh, you are in that Jewish Space Laser crowd! Fires from all those misdeeds by people (nasty people) but nothing to do with natural processes--very wet season, great growth of vegetation, perfect kindling, high winds and then just the spark to ignite the conflagration: Must be the fault of all those Democrats in charge in California! But wait! Climate Change Is A Chinese Plot! And a fraud! Even if it's not climate change, it must be the fault of Democrats! (And by the way, if there is a truce in Gaza, it was Trump's victory!) Attribution is such a wonderful game.
I think all will find after the investigation is concluded that there was gross mismanagement by the governors office the mayor and the fire dept. not sure what that has to do with space lasers
Mad Dog, What Anon seems to be missing is the point of the Jon Stewart piece. If the LAFD mismanaged their efforts at the start of the fire, there will be work done to improve response time and likely some heads will roll. However, Stewart’s point was that the behavior of many Republican legislators in threatening to withhold aid to California was reprehensible—which indeed it was. I might add also indefensible, which may explain why Anon is going off on tangents…. Maud
Space lasers is an attempt to explain natural disasters and lay the blame/cause on some human agent. Blaming incompetent Democratic office holders for the destruction of fires fanned by 100 mph winds is the same thing. We often saw this sort of reaction when a patient arrived at the ER dying of cancer or heart disease who expired on the gurney. The family sometimes blamed the ER staff for incompetence. Looking for someone to blame is especially attractive when you detest that person for other reasons. "Just remember," one of my residents told me when we were faced with a dying patient, "You didn't give this patient his disease." There is the very human instinct to blame yourself, which I imagine even the governor or mayor may harbor, but neither bears major responsibility for these horrific fires. Of course, there are always things which might have been done, could have been done to mitigate, but when you have those discussions, and I've been in on many, you always have someone saying: This has never happened, why should we spend so much money on something that has never happened? Michael Lewis's Fifth Risk is a nice exploration of this. Interesting how rare it is to blame the government of LA or FL or AL for damage related to tropical storms, but when it's a blue state with a natural disaster, it's that damn elitist, liberal government which is the culprit.
By your logic, you would blame the mayor of Pompeii for the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Los Angeles likely has built too many homes in vulnerable places, and that is not the fault of Democratic politicians. Nor are 100 mph winds. Confirmation bias is the phrase which describes your thinking here. I do watch Bill Maher. Best I can say for him is he is less absurd than FOXNEWS.
Hmm... Why Does Mad Dog think that the Biden HHS Administration has finally taken action against Ecohealth in their last few days in office? Just coincidental timing? Are you really so naive?
The Origins of the Coronavirus Pandemic, Including but Not Limited to the Federal Government’s Funding of Gain-of-Function Research
COVID-19 ORIGIN: COVID-19 most likely emerged from a laboratory in Wuhan, China. The FIVE strongest arguments in favor of the “lab leak” theory include:
The virus possesses a biological characteristic that is not found in nature. Data shows that all COVID-19 cases stem from a single introduction into humans. This runs contrary to previous pandemics where there were multiple spillover events. Wuhan is home to China’s foremost SARS research lab, which has a history of conducting gain-of-function research at inadequate biosafety levels. Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) researchers were sick with a COVID-like virus in the fall of 2019, months before COVID-19 was discovered at the wet market. By nearly all measures of science, if there was evidence of a natural origin it would have already surfaced.
Listen to Paul Offit and TWiV, not QAnon. Virtually all of these falsehoods have been addressed by TWiV and Offit: --Wuhan scientists were never shown to have COVID--it was flu season. --"Nearly all measures of science" is not a thing. --The House Oversight Committee is political hack land, not science. --The Federal government funding Wuhan was the Chinese federal government, for the most part. Specific studies/projects all over the world get some NIH funding, even labs in China, if they are studying stuff we want to know about. --"Gain of function" is not some nefarious thing--genomic manipulation is done in virology labs, depending on how you define it, all the time. --The virus does not possess a biological characteristic not found in nature. It was deadly enough with its natural features without attributing to it some Frankenstein qualities. It was the very fact that the genome was so clearly like other nasty things seen in nature before that the folks in China and Australia and the US quickly recognized it could be deadly and easily spread, like MERS and SARS before it. --Listen to people who know what they are talking about. Listen to TWiV. Rich Condit, Brianne Barker, Kathy Spindler, Alan Dove, Vincent Racaniello. They actually know real stuff, and they know what is whacko stuff when they see it. Microbe TV has a library of episodes they did as the pandemic emerged, during and afterward, addressing this nonsense. --Mad Dog

Does Mad Dog still think the origins are COVID are irrelevant, even for the millions who died? Is that a WOKE humanitarian view?
