The Disappeared

Mad Dog is a little blurry on the details, but wasn't there a time when we used to read about certain South American nations where people were just "disappeared," picked up by anonymous hooded police or soldiers and whisked away and never heard of again? The only sure thing about those events was the guys in the hoods with the guns and the vans were working for the government, not for some cartel because the vans, the equipment were all government issued.

Abu Ghraib

And then there were men who were whisked away from some battlefield in some Middle Eastern nation, bound and hooded and they woke up in Guantanamo (Gitmo) or Abu Ghraib.

American government operating outside the law, or, put another way, illegally. ("Extra-legally" is an anemic dodge, a way of saying, "well it's not actually against the law; it's just outside the law."

When confronted with the photos from Abu Ghraib, George W. Bush said, "This is not who we are."

Sure, I lynched 'em.

But, of course, he was dead wrong about that.

Americans have been cheerfully lynching Negroes for centuries, grinning into the camera. And the Gitmo black site, same thing. And the disappearing of of people just living their lives, not committing crimes, off the streets, not just a South American or Russian thing.

After Church Party for the Children

It's now All American smirking crimes committed by knowing, willful American police, ICE or DHS personnel.

Arrest, habeas corpus, arraignment, public defenders, trial--all gone. Inefficient. Why waste time and money on trials, lawyers and courts?

We have smirking Trump sitting next to the smirking dictator of El Salvador, laughing about a man from Maryland who was disappeared to an El Salvadorian gulag and they say, "So, what are you going to do about it?

Hey, What's Done Is Done

This America, man. This Trump America.

You voted for it, America.

  1. Hmm. Obama deported three million persons. We’re they disappeared too? Mad Dog you’ve been duped by fake news. I believe the gentleman they deported was here illegally and was in fact El Salvadoran the very country he was sent to.

  2. Does mad dog support the rectitude of Obama deportation of three million ? What was the due process for those three million? Was everyone of those deportations legally correct and scrutinized for rectitude? The media have given up in defending against the deportation of non American Hamas student supporters who terrorized Jews on campuses and is seeking some symbolic victim. Looks like you fell for that fake news fable.

  4. Oh, that hoary old fake news trope!
Trump isn't so bad--just look at Obama and Biden. And don't forget Hillary! They all did bad things! So, by comparison, Trump delivering up unsuspecting parents to hoodlum dictators to be swallowed up in a gulag-- ain't no big thang.

And all Mr. Trump ever wanted to do was to protect Jewish students on Ivy League campuses from Hamas terrorists masquerading as student protesters! So let's stop cancer research and vaccine development and medical school funding to teach those antisemites a lesson, b/c, you know, it's all about making Jewish students at Columbia feel safe.

Universities--don't you know--are all just hotbeds of antisemitism and we ought to shut them all down and burn those DEI banners as a testimony to free speech!

And let's use the IRS to bring down our political opponents, who are, after all, every one of them antisemites, as if we actually care about antisemitism. And let's make anyone who criticizes Netanyahu an antisemite, and sic the IRS on them or maybe just swoop in and hustle them off to El Salvador before anyone can say, "Despot!"
Yes, poor Anonymous, you have drunk deep from the Kool Aid of Trumpian LSD and wound up with tunnel vision, among other maladies.

  5. Just like the societal destruction of big tobacco, Harvard and the Ivy League have brainwashed and indoctrinated a generation with noxious destructive left wing anti semitic anti anti American ideals. They need to pay America back for the social damage they committed. Perverse anti white Racism and discrimination and anti Semitism is a cultural rot that will take a generation to purge. How many victims are out there? Denied recruitment promotion or harassed. You bemoan the discrimination against your beloved and lauded hormone physician who questioned leftist transsexual ideology but deny the magnitude of the problem. Genocide of Jews depends upon context? That moment exposed the evil, predatory, aggrandizing nature of these institutions.

  7. And btw that gentleman who was in the USA illegally and deported to his home country had an order of protection filed by his wife in 2021. So the fake news narrative about him crumbles very quickly.

  8. Mad Dog and Anon,
I couldn’t possibly state the case against Trump’s deplorable actions better than you have here Mad Dog.

Anon- if you’re so certain Abrego-Garcia is a gang member- have him returned as all the courts have ordered and give him due process. As for the “What about Obama, Hillary, Biden argument…” give me a break. They weren’t deporting people to heinous, foreign prisons.

One of the best movies of last year was the Brazilian film “I’m still Here” about citizens being snatched off the street and their homes for political reasons. I didn’t know at the time I was watching it that the Trump regime would soon be employing the same tactics.

  9. The deported gentleman is a citizen of El Salvador. He is not in a foreign prison!!

  10. Anon-
The deported gentleman is being illegally confined in a foreign gulag. He’s not just hanging out in El Salvador… illegally imprisoned for an indefinite time on the orders of the felon in the White House. Nice try…

  11. Anon,
Your capacity for self delusion is really growing to gargantuan proportions. Yes, I looked up the charts on the number of persons "returned" and those "detained" in the Obama years, but the critical issue is not the numbers--which are affected by the numbers of people attempting to enter--what is important is whether or not due process, judges, lawyers, hearings were followed and the law respected.
Neither you nor I can know if all those 3 million got due process but I'm betting they all did.
Trump is sneering at the legal process and saying it doesn't matter and will not affect his behavior. So one thing both you and I can know is nobody he's deported has had due process.

In the particular case of this man snatched up and incarcerated in an El Salvadorian prison, whether or not he is from that country, or whether he beat his wife is irrelevant, Immaterial and inept: all that matters is he was kidnapped by United States government goons, illegally and thrown into a prison and when a judge demanded his release and return Trump and his henchman, the gangster dictator of El Salvador replied, "Well, he sleeps with the fishes now."
You try to put lipstick on a pig, and then you expect us all to vote her Miss America.
Or, to use an analogy more apt: What Trump is doing in America now is very much what Eichmann did in Germany: just round 'em up, shove them into trains and deliver them to the concentration camps. They are all "undesirables."

  12. Mad Dog,
Agreed. None of the men sent to this soulless Central American hell hole have been convicted of a crime. Biden and Obama never delivered immigrants to a prison nor did they ignore the Supreme Court… Trump is the head thug in a lawless regime which will go down as the worst Presidency in our history. Well one hopes this fool is the worst- can’t imagine one lower than this…

  13. Ms. Maud,
Yes--by any name you have nailed the hammer on the head.
Whenever you see a big number (Phantom's Rule #13) you know whoever is citing it has no clear idea what they are talking about.
What can we possibly know about how those people were treated, who they actually were, what different circumstances and different groups may have obtained? It's all just a talking point number.
The other tactic I love, which you see from trolls frequently is when they say, "And, oh, it was Democrats who tried to keep the slaves enslaved and who kept Jim Crow alive in the South. Strom Thurmond was a Democrat!"
And then you have to explain about Lincoln, and the Whigs becoming Republicans and the Dixiecrats and you find yourself wondering--why am I even bothering engaging with these people? There is no possibility of persuasion, meaningful exchange of ideas, actual discourse. It's all just a Twitter storm game.
    What is the point?
Which may be the next blog post.

  14. Here is The fact that our president has now secured our border against a criminal invasion.do either of you want to dispute that fact?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anon,
Are you going with the ole “the ends justify the means” argument? I will acknowledge the number of border crossings are apparently down significantly, but at what cost? Using your line of thinking perhaps we should have had machine guns lined up across the border to mow down anyone attempting to cross. Imagine how quickly the numbers would drop then…

  16. Only leftist logic would view enforcement of the law as tantamount to indiscriminate murder. The fact is indiscriminate murderer rape and other horrid crimes were the result of Biden refusal to enforce the law and secure the border and deport criminal aliens . Inversion of facts is not persuasive.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anon,
Oh, yes I'll dispute that your President has secured the boarder against criminal invasion. Even he admits people go under and over the wall, where it still remains standing. The flow of immigrants continues and will continue no matter what we do.
Not that we will ever really know what the actual real rates of illegal border crossings are because, you know, people who cross the border illegally ordinarily do not check in with authorities, unless they are claiming asylum.

We could deal with immigration, if we actually passed new laws, but the last time Congress tried Trump wouldn't let them because he wanted to run on that issue. So Trump has continued to relish the invasion, and he will do nothing to stop it. And we'll have no real way of figuring out what the real numbers are.
And no, indiscriminate murder and rape and other horrid crimes were not committed by immigrants except rarely, as most immigrants do not even want to risk a speeding ticket and they try mightily to avoid attracting the attention of police.
So, you can make up your own facts, but none of them are true or provable.

  18. Average criminal invasion per month under Biden 155,000 u der Trump 7000. Do the math mad dog. No change in law.

    ReplyDelete
  19. No idea what "average criminal invasion per month" is.
But, ipso facto, when we get a big number like 155,000, Mad Dog's 13th law applies: Whenever you see a big number, the most likely explanation is the guy using it has absolutely no idea what he's talking about.
    That would be you.
